    • fearfuldogs - Off leash for the second time!
    • 6 months ago — 39 views
    • Gallup Farm apple orchard Guilford VT
        1. Nokie was recently adopted from the local humane society. His new owners did not let him off leash because they were not sure he would come when called. His original owner may not have walked him much at all. Not sure what happened to the sound in this clip but as I head away from him I call out 'this way!' and he happily changes direction to join me. fearfuldogs

    • fearfuldogs - It's not easy being clean! Sunny's first trip to groomer

        1. FYI- Sunny is rarely handled by anyone but me. He tolerates vet visits well but I was concerned about a trip to the groomer. This was his first bath in the 3.5 years since I got him. I did not want to bathe him at home for fear of creating negative associations with rooms in the house, he is still not 100% comfortable in every room. I did give him a hit of Xanax before the visit, to help take the edge off, which it seems to have done. Sunny was and is extremely afraid of people so I wanted this experience to be a neutral as a new place, being brushed and bathed could be for a scared dog. He rebounded quickly and was happily chasing frisbees by the time we got home. In the past an experience like this might have left him incapacitated for the day or longer. fearfuldogs
        2. Did you mean 3.5 years? I thought we were neglecting our fearful dog Sheba by not giving her a monthly bath like our Westie. The occasional wetting in her kiddie pool seems to keep her clean and fresh. She loves to go lay in it when she relaxes enough. I'm glad I read this because when we do need to give her a bath we'll take her elsewhere so she doesn't relate to our bathroom as a negative room. She's just gotten comfortable coming in while we're in there. dmassafl
        1. Yup 3.5 years. I've had other dogs that I rarely if ever bathed. Some dogs likes westies which are prone to skin problems do need more grooming but if my dogs haven't rolled in anything stinky or otherwise don't smell nasty, have skin irritations, fleas, etc. just some brushing seems to do the trick. I have also had cockers which went to the groomer every 3-4 months and may have had a bath in between if we were going visiting. fearfuldogs
