The 12seconds API provides developers with the ability to grab and mix content from the 12seconds site in a number of cool ways. This alpha release of the API is a set of simple HTTP requests to our API server that returns XML for your mashup pleasure. You can grab a single user's videos, the videos of that user's friends, metadata about a single video, and videos matching tags. This is just the first step for the 12seconds API. We have lots more coming up, so look out. For now, have fun playing around with the great content on 12seconds!
The latest version of API now allows authenticated requests and remote authoring so you can integrate recording via webcam or file upload from your own apps and have those videos posted to 12seconds. Check out the API documentation below for more information and e-mail us to request a partner_id to access these new features.
** A NOTE REGARDING CHANGES IN OUR API POLICIES ***
We have changed/refined some of our policies regarding use of our API recently. A couple of sites had cropped up simply leeching off our service and using our API to host videos for their users without those users ever knowing 12seconds was powering any of it and without having those users sign up for accounts at 12seconds to record. While we encourage use of our API, 12seconds must be attributed accordingly anywhere where recording and playback takes place AND if you are offering the ability for any user to record something, they must have THEIR OWN 12seconds account and login with that information. You cannot store all your own user's videos on one account. Our API was designed to support individual users using our service, not as a free back-end provider for others to build other services.
If you'd like to create a more custom solution or use 12seconds as a backend service for any project you might be working on, we have several paid options available and we encourage you to contact us to set up a paid promotional campaign for your client or brand.
